The development plan of Exo Lab Italia, an innovative start-up focusing on the development of biotechnologies utilizing plant nanovesicles, is gaining strength. They have recently received a round of financing from Scientifica VC.
“We take great pride in the trust Scientifica VC has shown in us and our research project on natural nano-biotechnologies. It is a remarkable achievement resulting from the collective efforts of our entire team. The funding will bolster our research and development of highly innovative products based on plant nanovesicles extracted from organic fruits and vegetables. With Scientifica’s support, we are confident in our ability to enhance our impact,” expressed Antonella Logozzi, one of the founders of Exo Lab Italia and a member of the Scientific Advisory Board.

In a context of ground-breaking work in the field of Extracellular Vesicles (EVs), the research group has published over 50 scientific papers and reviews, ranking first in Italy and among the global leaders in terms of publication count and citations. These research activities have not only led to the discovery of innovative aspects with immediate potential for clinical application but have also resulted in several patents based on a method for detecting nanovesicles in biological fluids. Innovation and research are at the core of the start-up’s activities, conducted within the premises of Scientifica Lab at the Abruzzo Technopole, as well as in collaboration with leading Italian research institutes. In the founders’ vision, Exo Lab Italia aims to create products based on Plant Nanovesicles for various application areas, including Nutraceuticals, Dermocosmetics, Drug Delivery, and Life Science.
Statements from Key Figures.
“Scientifica is a private VC that encompasses the Scientifica Lab incubator. We are always in search of extraordinary technologies. Therefore, we proudly announce our investment in an innovative start-up that is entirely ‘Made in Italy’ like Exo Lab. We are confident that Exo Lab Italia will revolutionize the current biotechnological landscape in our country, which is why we have chosen to finance it and include it in our acceleration program to ensure tangible business growth,” stated Riccardo D’Alessandri, Managing Partner of Scientifica.
Scientifica VC aims to serve as a pivotal point of reference for Italian start-ups engaged in scientific research and in need of support during the early stages of business development, offering pre-seed, seed, and early-stage investments. It provides the necessary tools and infrastructure for start-ups to transform their ideas into products, services, and technologies, with a particular emphasis on new materials, advanced manufacturing, and artificial intelligence. Although it is a newcomer to the Italian landscape, Scientifica draws upon the solid foundations of two established entities: Ventiseidieci, an Italian company dedicated to scientific research in the field of innovation, with offices in Rome and L’Aquila, and LSG Ventures Limited, a London-based company with a successful track record of executing numerous venture capital operations over the years.
