Lab Approved: The Extensive Network of Laboratories for Research, Prototyping, and Testing Certified by Scientifica Venture Capital

26 January 2023

Lab Approved is a collaborative ecosystem created in the past year by Scientifica Venture Capital in partnership with universities, research centres, and corporate entities across the country.

This significant and ambitious project aims to support innovation and foster technology transfer through an extensive network of laboratories located in various Italian regions. These laboratories are accessible to start-ups within the Scientifica Venture Capital portfolio.

But how did it all begin?

“In the past year, we have been in contact with over 300 start-ups and research teams,” says Riccardo D’Alessandri, Managing Partner of Scientifica Venture Capital. “We received numerous requests from founders and researchers interested in utilizing the laboratories owned by Scientifica Venture Capital for the development of their ideas. Recognizing the growing need for facilities and aiming to provide a concrete response to the needs of Italy’s innovative fabric, we created this network. The concept was wholeheartedly embraced by the country, and laboratories across the nation approached us, seeking certification and the opportunity to become part of Scientifica Lab Approved. After conducting thorough site inspections, we welcomed only those equipped with top-notch facilities and scientific expertise into our network. These excellent facilities offer territorial proximity to start-ups. Today, the Lab Approved network is extensive, deeply rooted, and serves as a reference point for the development of high-standard competencies in Northern, Central, and Southern Italy”.

The laboratories that have joined the Lab Approved network encompass all the technological excellences that Italy can boast of. These spaces are dedicated to various areas such as prototyping, digital health, robotics, mechatronics, molecular diagnostics, advanced materials, 3D printing, and much more.

Laboratories have always been the driving force behind innovation, where projects and ideas with great potential are born. Scientifica Venture Capital wanted to create a tool that allows laboratories throughout the country to host start-ups and support them in their growth and evolution.

The Lab Approved project perfectly reflects Scientifica’s innovative approach. This unique venture capital firm has chosen to focus entirely on scientific and technological development, evolving the concept of technology transfer. As we have seen, the Lab Approved initiative originated from the genuine needs of research and scientific development.

To emphasize the importance of the Lab Approved network, Scientifica Venture Capital has implemented a special “Tool” on its website that enables start-ups to search for the most suitable laboratory according to their needs, facilitating the exploration of facilities within the network. With this implementation, a start-up can quickly choose the type of laboratory that best suits its requirements, filtering it by region and type of equipment. This further enhances the practical and concrete objective of Scientifica Venture Capital to offer support, including infrastructure, to Italy’s innovation ecosystem.
