Designing molecules that “silence” disease-causing genes: Loto Biotech Platform secures a €600K funding round with Scientifica Venture Capital to treat genetic diseases

A new start-up joins the portfolio of Scientifica Venture Capital, bringing with it a technology that marks a turning point in the biotech sector.
We’re talking about LOTO Biotech Platform, an innovative company specializing in the development of siRNA molecules capable of selectively “silencing” mutated genes responsible for severe rare genetic diseases.
According to the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers, over 400 million people worldwide are affected by rare diseases and more than half are children. Furthermore, around 250 new genetic diseases are discovered each year, 95% of which currently have no available treatment options.
The solution developed by LOTO Biotech Platform is designed to rapidly and precisely identify highly specific siRNA prodrugs, capable of switching off only the faulty gene while preserving the healthy one. This approach allows for a 50% reduction in development time and 25% lower costs compared to traditional methods. Moreover, the modular nature of the technology makes it highly scalable across hundreds of different diseases, opening new pathways in the treatment of oncological, cardiovascular, and metabolic conditions as well.
“Rare diseases pose a deep and tangible challenge for millions of people. With this investment, we aim to turn biotechnological research into concrete solutions that offer new hope to those facing seemingly insurmountable challenges every day,” said Riccardo D’Alessandri, Managing Partner of Scientifica Venture Capital.
“The investment in LOTO Biotech Platform will accelerate the entire therapeutic development cycle. We are excited to support a highly qualified team with a clear vision focused on bridging a significant gap in precision medicine.”
The LOTO Biotech team will further develop their technology within Scientifica Lab, a 4,000 m² space entirely dedicated to cutting-edge projects. These laboratories are designed to streamline the transition from concept to prototype and foster start-up growth in an environment rich in resources and top-tier expertise.
With access to Scientifica Venture Capital’s specialized laboratories, LOTO Biotech will be able to cut both time and costs in the preclinical discovery process. This approach not only enhances targeting accuracy for genetic mutations but also contributes to faster patient access to tailored therapies, overcoming traditional barriers to pharmaceutical innovation.
With a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) estimated at 11.3% and a projected global market value exceeding $550 billion by 2030, the rare disease sector is one of the most dynamic and strategic areas in the future of medicine. Within this context, Scientifica Venture Capital and LOTO Biotech Platform aim to be leaders in biotech innovation.
