Relicta
Innovation of Packaging
Relicta is an innovative company that has developed a water-soluble, biodegradable and compostable bioplastic packaging material made from by-products of the fish processing industry.
Relicta was founded to address the growing problem of plastic pollution in seas and oceans, much of which originates from single-use packaging waste. Its solution is built around the principles of sustainability and environmental responsibility, offering a low-impact alternative to conventional plastic packaging.
Relicta’s key innovation and competitive advantage lies in its self-disposal process. The proprietary bioplastic can be dissolved directly in household water, allowing consumers to dispose of the packaging safely and conveniently without generating persistent plastic waste.
Another distinctive feature of Relicta’s technology is that it is produced from food industry waste streams. Unlike many bioplastics currently available on the market – which are biodegradable but not bio-based, as they are manufactured using synthetic polymers derived from fossil resources – Relicta’s material is both bio-based and fully circular, supporting a more sustainable approach to packaging.
