Workshop Q-ETNA26
During the Q-ETNA26 workshop, held at the Department of Physics and Astronomy “Ettore Majorana” and the Third Mission Office of the University of Catania, Scientifica delivered two intensive courses designed to equip researchers, PhD candidates, and academic staff with the strategic tools needed to navigate the Venture Capital ecosystem.
Coordinated by Professor Giuseppe Falci, Full Professor at the Department of Physics and Astronomy, the event served as a key meeting point between the deep tech research community and the business world, with the aim of bridging the gap between laboratory research and market adoption.

VENTURE CAPITAL & START-UPS: INVESTMENT MODELS, STAGES, AND DECISION-MAKING FRAMEWORKS
The first course was designed to provide participants with a practical understanding of how Venture Capital investments work, with a particular focus on deep tech projects, science-driven start-ups, and frontier technologies, including quantum technologies.
Structured across four modules, the course explored the frameworks that transform scientific research into investable opportunities, while providing practical guidance on fundraising, from building a compelling pitch deck to effectively managing negotiations with investors.
Market & Technology Intelligence in Deep Tech: Market Analysis, Competitive Landscape, and Opportunity Assessment
The second course, aimed primarily at administrative staff involved in PNRR Quantum Technologies projects, focused on the analysis and interpretation of deep tech markets and technology trends.
Participants were introduced to practical, easily applicable tools, including market segmentation, TAM/SAM/SOM methodologies for assessing a start-up’s market potential, SWOT analysis, and frameworks for evaluating technology signals and maturity. The course also provided practical guidance on synthesizing these analyses into clear, decision-oriented outputs to support strategic decision-making.
