Typical specifications include achromatic or plan-achromatic objectives, variable magnification, a mechanical stage, and coarse and fine focusing.
In the field of smart materials, the Leica DM500 is indispensable for the visualization and analysis of microstructures, morphologies, and defects. It allows for monitoring crystal growth and thin film formation, crucial steps in the development of new materials.

FTIR Spettrofotometro – Shimadzu IRAffinity-1S

The Shimadzu IRAffinity-1S FTIR (Fourier-Transform Infrared) Spectrophotometer with an ATR accessory is capable of measuring the interaction of infrared light with matter to identify the functional groups and molecular structure of samples. It operates based on the principle that every molecule absorbs infrared radiation at specific frequencies corresponding to the vibrations of its bonds. The ATR (Attenuated Total Reflectance) technology allows for the direct analysis of solid, liquid, and paste-like samples without preparation, utilizing the phenomenon of total internal reflection. Its high resolution and signal-to-noise ratio (30,000:1) ensure precise and reliable analysis.

Mini Spray Dryer
S-300

It utilizes spray-drying technology, a dehydration process that converts a solution or suspension into a dry powder through atomization and contact with a flow of hot gas. Accurate control of the gas temperature, feed rate, and sample flow allows for optimization of the drying efficiency and the production of particles with desired characteristics. Ideal for encapsulating active ingredients, developing controlled-release systems, and creating materials with specific functionalities.

Discovery SDT 650 Simultaneous Thermal Analyzer

An instrument for thermal analysis that combines the functionalities of DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimetry) and TGA (Thermogravimetric Analysis) in a single platform. It is capable of simultaneously measuring the change in weight and the heat flow of materials as a function of temperature or time, a function that makes it indispensable for the comprehensive characterization of a wide range of substances.

IKA Rotavisc lo-vi
Complete Viscometer

The IKA Rotavisc lo-vi Complete Viscometer is a precision rotational viscometer ideal for determining the dynamic viscosity of low- and medium-viscosity fluids in the laboratory, ensuring fast, accurate, and reproducible measurements. This instrument is crucial for optimizing formulations, allowing materials to be obtained with the desired rheological properties for advanced applications. Precise viscosity control is essential for ensuring the stability, homogeneity, and optimal performance of new compounds.

Labconco Liofilizzatore – FreeZone 4.5L Benchtop

This instrument allows for the removal of water from thermosensitive samples by freezing the sample and inducing the sublimation of ice under vacuum. Thanks to the Lyo-Works™ Operating System, touchscreen display control, and automatic End Point Detection functions, the instrument ensures reproducible results and total process control. It is fundamental for the preparation of thermosensitive powders or composites, preserving their structure and functionality, for the encapsulation of active ingredients in temperature-sensitive polymer matrices, and for the preservation of materials with self-assembling or reactive properties.

LAMBDA 850+ UV/Vis Spectrophotometer

The UV/Vis (Ultraviolet/Visible) Spectrophotometer measures the absorption or transmission of light by a sample at different wavelengths, within the ultraviolet and visible spectrum range (typically from 175 to 900 nm). This technique is based on the principle that molecules absorb energy at specific wavelengths, causing electronic transitions. The intensity of the absorbed light is proportional to the concentration of the substance in the sample. It excels in the analysis of surface coatings and high-performance glass. The instrument’s modularity facilitates the quick replacement of sampling modules, minimizing analysis time and maximizing productivity in chemical laboratories.

Mastersizer 3000 con Aero S e Hydro EV

An instrument for particle size analysis based on laser diffraction, capable of measuring particle size distributions from 10 nanometers to 3.5 millimeters. Its operation is based on the principles of Mie and Fraunhofer diffraction, which describe how laser light scatters when it encounters particles of different sizes. This innovative central optical design ensures rapid measurements and high sample throughput. The instrument’s versatility, enhanced by accessories for wet dispersion (Hydro EV) and dry dispersion (Aero S), makes it indispensable for nanotechnologies and the development of smart materials, where precision in controlling particle size is crucial.

Mechatronics and 3D printing

Mechanical Manufacturing Laboratory

It is a space equipped for precise and versatile processing. Thanks to tools like the lathe, it is possible to create custom cylindrical components, and with the CO₂ laser, materials such as PMMA, wood, or metal are engraved and cut. The column drill press allows for precise drilling, while the TIG welder helps to build robust and lightweight structures. Rounding out the equipment are the paint booth for finishes and prototypes, and a compressor to power sandblasting systems.

Electronics Laboratory

The Electronics Laboratory is dedicated to the design, testing, and optimization of electronic circuits and embedded systems. Its activities range from manual soldering and microscopic inspection to signal analysis using oscilloscopes and precision power supplies, supporting every stage of electronic prototyping and validation.
The laboratory is equipped with advanced systems such as the Voltera V-One, which enables rapid printing and assembly of custom printed circuit boards (PCBs), significantly accelerating the prototyping process. It also features the ACHI IR6000 rework station, designed for the precise repair and replacement of BGA (Ball Grid Array) components using infrared thermal control, ensuring accurate and reliable rework of complex electronic assemblies
